We are seeking a PR Officer to join our friendly London based team.

Dogs Trust is the largest dog welfare charity in the UK with a nationwide network of rehoming centres and charity shops. Last year, Dogs Trust centres cared for over 9,000 dogs; we never put a healthy dog down.

Communications and Digital plays a central role at Dogs Trust. We help people know, love, and understand the charity and take action to support the charity’s work. We use our understanding of Dogs Trust and audience need to produce impactful and creative on-brand communications, liaising with the media and celebrities, and engaging directly with our supporters.

This is a brilliant opportunity to bring your experience in media and public relations to a passionate, high-performing team, leading on stories about our activity in London as well as contributing to Dogs Trust’s national profile.

In this role you will develop and implement comprehensive communications activities on regional and national levels, you will hold a watching brief over political activity relating to the work we do, as well as working with various internal contacts and the national Public Affairs team to maximise opportunities and manage reputational risks.

You will also handle reactive media enquiries, researching and preparing statements for approval; briefing spokespeople, co-ordinating and attending media visits, and you will generate pro-active media coverage, being involved in nationwide, integrated communications campaigns in line with the marcomms strategy. In consultation with senior managers, you will also assist with crisis management issues relating both to the region and nationally.

To be successful in this role you will have previously worked in PR, communications or journalism and/or a busy press office, with significant of gaining positive media coverage across a range of channels. You will have a good understanding of the charity sector and an awareness and understanding of the wider political news agenda.

You will be an excellent communicator with the ability to translate complex issues into engaging, media-friendly content, with experience of building and managing productive relationships with journalists.
